How does confidentiality work?

What you say in therapy, stays in therapy. However, there are times when the therapists has a legal obligation to break confidentiality.

  • Harm to self or others

  • a child or older adult in care is in danger

  • a client experience a health emergency during a session.

How long will I need to attend therapy before I am better?

Depending on the reason you are seeking a thearpist. Therapy can emotionally painful, because it requires you to look at yourself and your life situations in a very deep and honest way, and to make some difficult changes. When your goals are met to your satisfaction, you can decide to discontinue treatment, remain in treatment to make sure you maintain your progress, or set new goals. Remaining in therapy is always your choice.

What if my therapist believes I need medication?

If your therapist thinks that medication may be helpful, she will discuss a referral to a health professional who is trained in working with emotional and behavioral issues – most often, a psychiatrist. Whether or not you choose to accept your therapist’s recommendation is ultimately your decision.
